Mentored by Richmond Football Club defender Steven Morris, the Cardinia Young Leaders program will encourage and support young people (15-17 year olds) to become actively engaged as leading young citizens.
They will work directly with local sporting clubs to encourage and facilitate the implementation of a healthy sporting environment.
Participants will be exposed to leadership development programs including mindfulness, personality profiles, public speaking and teamwork.
Participants will also be offered funded positions in accredited training programs such as pool lifeguard, swim teaching and customer service, with a view to developing the next group of local staff to work within Cardinia Leisure facilities.
Morris said he was excited to get started on this new program in Cardinia Shire.
“Being able to combine my passions for sport and personal development, I hope to work with keen young leaders to develop their skills and support their local clubs,” Morris said.
“Growing up in a sporting family, I know how important footy, netball and basketball clubs can be.
“Through this program we will make them even better places for young people to enjoy.”
Commencing in April, participants will meet regularly with Morris, learning from him and other experienced leaders.
