Through the Buddy Bag program, thoughtfully curated backpacks are distributed to vulnerable children across Australia experiencing crisis, trauma, or hardship. These backpacks, filled with essential items like pyjamas, toiletries, and a comforting teddy bear, provide a sense of security and comfort to children entering emergency care as a result of experiencing violence, trauma, or displacement.
The team’s visit began with an introduction to the Alannah & Madeline Foundation’s history and mission. A presentation from a program expert highlighted the profound impact Buddy Bags have on children experiencing trauma. Learning about the difficult circumstances – from family violence to displacement – that lead children to need Buddy Bags was a moving experience. As Shannon Mounsey, Active Manningham Manager, shared, ‘The morning was hard, hearing about why the foundation exists, but the rest of the day was amazing knowing what we are contributing to.’

The team then got to work, packing the 250 Buddy Bags. Helping to directly impact the lives of children across Australia, providing them with much-needed support during a difficult time. For Shannon, and the entire team, the experience was deeply rewarding. ‘It was heartwarming to see how these bags provide comfort and support to children in need,’ she shared, highlighting the team’s gratitude for the opportunity to contribute.
