Aligned Leisure managed facilities have underlined their wide-ranging excellence and high standing in the community at the recent 2020 Aquatic and Recreation Victoria (ARV) Awards.
Eltham Leisure Centre, in Nillumbik, was a standout at the virtual event with four award wins and Aligned Leisure also received a further four recognitions as a finalist.
Headlining the impressive feats was Eltham Leisure Centre’s recognition as winner of ARV’s prestigious Facility of the Year (Large) Award.
In winning the award, Eltham Leisure Centre was commended for; significant growth metrics in attendance, membership and swimming lessons, its Life Saving Victoria Platinum Pool accreditation, the launch of various digital customer experiences including the Nillumbik MOVES app, it’s significant funding to support Nillumbik residents experiencing disadvantage, and for delivering programs to over 1,000 students in Nillumbik schools.
Eltham Leisure Centre Swim Teachers Anneliese McDonald (Swim Teacher for people with a disability) and Hannah O’Shea (Swim Teacher for babies, infants and preschool) were recognised as the best in their field which coincided with the Centre being named as ARV’s Swim School of the Year.
The Centre’s Swim School was noted for its revitalised access and inclusion initiative, focus on supporting school children and the launch of its Little Wonders program.
Jessie Deakin (Swim Teacher Award) of Cardinia Life and Kaali Huddleston (Swim Teacher for babies, infants, and preschool) of Wodonga Sports and Leisure Centre were also awarded as finalists.
Cardinia Life was recognised as a finalist for ARV’s Sustainability Award for its outstanding work drastically improving its environmental footprint and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Cardinia Life’s ‘He Can So She Can Too’ initiative supporting community efforts in Cardinia Shire to combat domestic violence was another finalist for Aligned Leisure, through its recognition in the Community Impact Award category.
Aligned Leisure Chief Executive Officer, Shane Dunne, thanked the teams for their hard work to achieve such outcomes.
“We are very proud of the work these outstanding teams have put in throughout 2019 to be recognised for such awards,” he said.
“It is because of their terrific dedication and commitment that we can achieve such innovation in our programming and initiatives to best benefit our customers and the wider communities that we are so proudly a part of.”
Nillumbik Shire Council CEO, Carl Cowie, thanked the Eltham Leisure Centre team for the considerable effort and recognition.
“For one facility to win four awards is a truly remarkable achievement. The Nillumbik community can therefore take great in pride in knowing that Eltham Leisure Centre is among the best of its kind in the state. We have a fantastic community asset which is outstandingly run,” he said.
The ARV Industry Awards recognise and reward outstanding achievement and commitment to the industry.
