Aquatics and Recreation Victoria Awards – Swim School of the Year Winner

Eltham Leisure Centre has been awarded Swim School of the Year at the 2020 Aquatics and Recreation Victoria Awards. The recognition follows the Centre’s Swim & Survive Licensee of the Year Award, which was claimed at the 2020 Life Saving Victoria Awards of Excellence in August.

Following a substantial redevelopment concluding in 2018, Eltham Leisure Centre recommenced its swim school program in November 2018. A key focus of the program was to engage the Nillumbik community to return to the pool.

Lisa Wilson, Head of Swim School, was proud of the team to receive multiple awards in 2020.

“Our team have worked incredibly hard to provide a program that resonates with the Nillumbik community and its fantastic for our team to receive recognition of our program excellence this year”, said Ms Wilson.

“Our focus on the development of our team has led to further awards this year with Hannah O’Shea winning the Swim Teacher of Babies, Infants and PreSchool award and Anneliese McDonald winning Swim Teacher for People With a Disability award.”

Key highlights of Eltham Leisure Centre’s Swim School in 2019 include:

  • 32% swim school growth
  • +46.0 Net Promoter Score
  • Launch of Little Wonders program
  • A revitalised access and inclusion initiative
  • Focus on supporting school children in attaining the Victorian Water Safety Certificate

Liam O’Brien, Nillumbik Leisure Manager, praised the team on a further accolade this year.

“In what has been a busy period following Eltham Leisure Centre’s redevelopment, the Swim School team have exceeded expectations with program growth and some of the highest customer satisfaction metrics in the industry,” said Mr O’Brien.

“The number of new program innovations implemented throughout 2019 have been well received and assisted us to grow our program. We can’t wait to reopen once we can following Government direction.”
