Award-winning tiger paw program lands in Nillumbik

On Wednesday 20th June 2018, Aligned Leisure proudly delivered the first Tiger PAW program to the Nillumbik community. Having the pleasure to travel to the leafy St Andrews Primary School; the program was delivered by staff from the Eltham Leisure Centre and Richmond Football Club.

The day was filled with laughter and fun as the students had the opportunity to take part in an interactive nutrition session which saw them create their own healthy wrap or fruit salad as well as learning about the main nutritional components of food, and the benefit of eating a well-balanced meal. After lunch the students got to participate in a physical activity session involving games, agility drills and football skills. It was a fun and engaging activity session that focused on social interaction and the importance of teamwork.  At the end of the day each student got to take home their very own Richmond Football Club Tiger PAW football.  St Andrews Primary School will take part in 2 further sessions later in Term 3 with other schools who are registered for the program.

Tiger PAW is a free, unique and tailored program run by the Richmond Football Club, in communities where Aligned Leisure operate. In its first year, Tiger PAW (Physical Activity and Wellbeing) won the Aquatics and Recreation Victoria Innovative Program Award.

The complimentary program is offered to every primary school in the Nillumbik Shire Council. This has been made possible through the work of Aligned Leisure, Richmond Football Club and Nillumbik Shire Council at Eltham Leisure Centre.

Developed from the ground up using VicHealth program logic frameworks and tailored to specifically address Nillumbik Shire Council’s health priorities, Tiger PAW is supporting schools, communities and families to develop the next generation into strong, well-rounded, educated young adults.

Tiger PAW builds on the Club’s goals to inspire, enrich and improve the lives in the community by supporting children to develop vital life skills. The program consists of four distinct sessions designed specifically to address Nillumbik Shire Council’s health priorities:

  • PHYSICAL ACTIVITY
  • NUTRITION
  • RESILIENCE & MINDFULNESS
  • DIVERSITY & DISCRIMINATION
