A tripartite partnership between Aligned Leisure, Cardinia Shire Council and AG Coombs has seen Cardinia Life be recognised as a Finalist in the Sustainability and Environmental Impact Award at the Facility Management Association (FMA) Industry Awards, held on 3 December.
The Facility Management Association is the peak national industry body for facilities management, representing and supporting professionals and organisations responsible for the operational management of Australia’s built environments.
Cardinia Life’s nomination recognised the considerable energy and water savings being made across 15 substantial asset projects that are being delivered at the facility, all of which considerably improve its environmental footprint.
From the period June 2016 to August 2019, avoided greenhouse gas emissions at Cardinia Life totalled 225 tCO2-e, the equivalent of taking 50 cars off the road. Water savings in the same reporting period reduced water consumption by 75%, saving over 30,000 litres of water per day.
These outcomes led to a saving of $190,000.
Cardinia Shire Council General Manager of Liveable Communities, Tracey Parker, said she was proud of the achievements made by Cardinia Life over the last four years, leading to substantial environmental outcomes.
“Council’s investment in asset upgrades in recent years and Aligned Leisure’s continual focus on environmental outcomes has led to these outstanding results,” she said.
“The energy audit conducted by AG Coombs has further assisted us in determining further investment and where there are low hanging fruit opportunities.
“We are incredibly proud to be recognised at the FM Awards this year.”
The AG Coombs energy audit identified eight additional projects with potential savings and payback periods, most of which will generate 10-20% increases in energy savings once implemented. The insights have enabled Cardinia Shire Council to prioritise asset upgrades to the facility in future years.
Cardinia Leisure Manager, Paige Kristalyn, said that staff members were incredibly proud of the sustainability achievements made across the last four years.
“Our sustainability focus, in partnership with Cardinia Shire Council, has led to significant energy and water savings,” she said.
“We thank AG Coombs for their commitment to our sustainability efforts.”
