Getting children back in the pool for vital swim lessons

Following almost two months spent on dry land, Mildura Waves swim students made a splash this week as they returned to the water as part of a modified lesson program.

Designed to suit the current restriction levels across Regional Victoria, the program has been offered to students across selected program levels, with smaller class sizes and an adjusted timetable in place to help manage the 20-person capacity limit for indoor pools, making Mildura Waves one of the first public aquatic facilities in the State to safely support the return of students.

With swimming and water safety an essential life skill, this newly launched program has been designed in consultation with industry experts and in partnership with Mildura Rural City Council to prepare students for the return of regular swim school programming next month by providing an opportunity for them to return to the pool in a safe environment.

“Summer is just around the corner, and with so many fantastic open waterways and pools to enjoy across our Region, it’s great to be in a position to continue supporting the swimming and water safety development of our students.” said Mildura Leisure Manager, Caitlin Simmons.

“Keeping our community safe in and around the water is a team effort, with our teachers really missing the opportunity to see their students throughout each of our lockdowns. This modified lesson format is a great chance for us to reconnect with students and continue their pathway towards a fun, safe and enjoyable Summer around the water.” said Miss Simmons.

While the current restrictions prevent the centre’s full swim school program from returning just yet, the launch of this program has proven to be a positive step towards seeing students across all program levels return as soon as local restrictions are eased further.

Families interested in enrolling their child into lessons at Mildura Waves are encouraged to contact the centre on (03) 5018 7500 or at mildura.waves@alignedleisure.com.au
