Aligned Leisure launches Year 10 Student Activation Initiative

Aligned Leisure, a fully owned subsidiary of the Richmond Football Club, is proud to announce a new Year 10 Student Activation Initiative that will seek to increase physical activity within the Albury-Wodonga region.

The initiative will see every Year 10 student across Albury and Wodonga receive a 40-visit Health and Fitness Pass to attend the Wodonga Sports and Leisure Centre.

Students will also have access to the Albury Swim Centre, Lavington Swim Centre WAVES Wodonga during the summer months.

The initiative was today launched at the Wodonga Sports and Leisure Centre, with a group of four Tigers present for the announcement.

Fifteen Tigers spent the past two days in Albury-Wodonga for the Community Camp, where they visited 12 local primary schools, local junior football clubs, the Albury-Wodonga Aboriginal Health Service, and held an open training session at Martin Park, Wodonga.

The Year 10 Student Activation Initiative is a response to the small percentage of students that are choosing to study Health, Physical Education and Outdoor Education in Year 11 and Year 12.

Albury Wodonga Aquatic Facilities’ Ben Tudhope said the business was in full support of AlburyCity and Wodonga City Council’s key strategies.

“The aim of this initiative is to encourage 15-16-year-old young people to start or continue exercise at least once per week during the school year,” he said.

“We know the transition from Year 11 can be stressful for many and this Initiative will be focussed on supporting reduced mental stress and associated health conditions.

“Physical activity is proven to have a positive impact on the mind. Aligned Leisure sees this Initiative as a way to reduce feelings of loneliness and isolation while keeping young people connected to their community.”

The program will be piloted throughout February with Catholic College Wodonga before rolling out to all remaining 13 secondary schools across Albury-Wodonga from March.

There are approximately 1200 Year 10 students in Albury-Wodonga.
